Epochs: Frank Buffalo Hyde
Contemporary railyard art space, galleryFRITZ, is excited to announce Frank Buffalo Hyde’s upcoming solo show, Epochs, opening August 30 and running through September 22, 2019.
Buffalo Hyde’s current body of work is a culmination of 25 years of painting. Describing his new work as “liberated” from the self-imposed stylized confines of his earlier work, Buffalo Hyde says, he’s entering a different plane, where he’s now able to do more with his medium and process as a result of his maturity as an artist.
“You can’t create for this long and not have an idea where your work is going,” says Buffalo Hyde. “I finally feel like I’m fitting into my own shoes.”
Employing this newly embraced self-awareness, Buffalo Hyde takes special care to put thoughtful work into the world. His new show surveys pop imagery and iconography largely derived from decades of pop culture and social media, which he injects with poignant commentary underpinned by how the internet is now a standard reference. Stylistically, his use of bright colors and free-flowing abstract gestures juxtapose the charged elements from our everyday lives. Each individual work is a study within itself and yet informs the next into a delightfully cohesive foray into art and pop culture.
