Blue Rain Gallery is pleased to announce an upcoming show of new paintings by Larry D. Blissett. This show of new works titled, “Escucha con Tus Ojos” is scheduled to take place January 25 – February 9, 2018 with an artist opening night reception on Friday, January 25th from 5 – 7pm.
Blissett was born in Texas and currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico. He spent most of his life as a contractor in the building industry. Blissett’s subject matter includes stylized portraits, nudes, skulls, and skeletons, as well as animals such as roosters, snakes, fish, coyotes and bears. His work is often abstract or non-representational. Words and patterns swirl around in his compositions. Every painting seems to reveal a hidden truth.
This artist is true to himself and follows his vision. He does not stifle his voice—So, leave your inhibitions at the door and listen with your eyes (Escucha con tus ojos). Blissett says he’s “into the colors, the textures, and the brush marks.” He names Pablo Picasso, Paul Klee, and Jean-Michel Basquiat as a few of his artistic influences. He describes his work as “loner art”, “outsider art”, “art brut”, “abstract” and “expressionist”. Once described as the “Bukowski of the art world”, Blissett’s work is unashamed and, at times, even raunchy or brutish. A dynamic and vital creative force flows through the work.
Blissett has shown his work in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico. “The Southwest has a large influence on my subjects and palette. Most times they are not delicate. . . I like a wild and free aspect in my work and I hope you do as well,” says the artist.
